Music Is Life
The meaning of music to me is to be yourself. That’s how I was taught in music. I come from a place where everything is about race. You have to be a certain “color” to listen to the type of music others listen to. If you were black you would listen to genres like hip-hop, R&B, and rap. If you were white you would listen to rock or country music. There’s a lot of different stereotypes. I was raise to express myself , which I did and people thought it was weird. Its not everyday you find a black girl that loves rock music.
In pop culture I’m what you call a “wanna be.” I was raised listening to Foo Fighters, Nirvana and even Marilyn Manson. For me screamo music and heavy growling rock music mean the most to me. I say this because if you can just look outside of the screaming and heavy growling, there’s meaning in the lyrics. One band that I want to talk about is Motionless In White. This band is my life because I can relate to them. Since 2005, Pennsylvania based metal core act have cultivated a hardcore following via their Gothic-inspire aggression and imagery. The leader of this band Chris Motionless is an inspiration to me.
He’s beautiful like the moon and his eyes are as beautiful as a black cat. He’s that good, to me at least. Some of his lyrics are inappropriate I admit, but if you can look pass it you’ll understand the meaning behind his lyrics. A song that I want to talk about by this band is called “Immaculate Misconception.” This song is so power because it reaches out to kids that are hurting due to the way that they dress or carry themselves at school or even at home. Lets face it some family households don’t want there kids dressing up like an emo or goth kid. Some households can think its test and that they will grow out of it when they get older.
I found some lyrics from the song that I think is important to me:
“To all the kids who’s letters I receive
The broken hearted, the damaged just like me
I will be your voice to let the world know we stand as one
We’re standing right here so come and f*cking get us.”
This part of the song was so powerful because Chris Motionless was reaching out to kids just like him. The kids that are different and have no respect, saying that there all going to burn in hell. Me personally I’ve been called the Anti Christ in High School many times but I don’t let that stop me. Music is Love, music is life. You know what you love and you know what you don’t love. Motionless is a popular today, I would know because I keep up to date with them a lot.
Motionless in White is one of my favorite bands in the world. Love this group because they reach out to kids like me. Chris Motionless is the one in the middle. Doesn’t he favor Marilyn Manson a little? They came to cincinnati once and i saw them surffing the crowd. HE POINTED AT ME !!!!!!!!!!!!
