PTSD

PTSD is a mental illness somebody encounters one or more tragic events such as sexual assault, warfare, traffic collisions, or any other threats to a persons life. Some symptoms would include recurring flashbacks, avoidance or numbing of memories of the event. It was officially recognized as a disease in 1980 by the American psychiatric association. PTSD can also have a negative impact on your sleeping schedule, emotional rollercoasters. a family as a whole as well, some people in the family may want to avoid the person with PTSD, may be depresed because they have to deal with a victim of PTSD everyday, Anger and guilt may also be felt because members of the family are upset that the victim can't escape their problems. A statistic showed that soldiers who enlist before the age of 25 are 7 times more likely to develop PTSD, they're also more likely to have mental problems for the rest of their life. In fact young soldiers are almost guaranteed to have PTSD once all said and done. Imagine how badly this would effect ishmael and all of his friends considering how young they were.

( This soldier is trying to forget about a bad flashback running through his mind right now

  1. I really find the topic of PTSD interesting. I mean it is such a large issue in most cases and yet there really is no cure. Then again how can we have a cure for the issues of another's mind? Of course when we think of PTSD we most commonly associate it with soldiers. However, the truth is anyone can get PTSD from just about anything.

  3. PTSD, is a very serious disorder. Animals, dogs in general have a huge impact on the treatment of PTSD. They help with the extreme anxiety that the individual is experiencing. Yes, it is sad to think about the effects that we have read about with Ishmael. We are now reading about him opening up with Esther, this is another treatment for PTSD, taking about what they have been through.

  4. This was a good journal describing the harsh effects on one's mind during war. Not a lot of people realize the impact of war.

  5. I don't know if anyone has read or saw American Sniper but after Chris Kyle came back from the war it was heartbreaking to see the things that he had to go through and I can only imagine the toll it took on his family. But Kyle had his family to support him. It has to be so rough on Ishmael to not have his family there with him, but it's also good that his nurse, Esther, is there helping him.

  6. So one thing I know from the side of a soldier. Like a long way gone military members develop a second family. We always kept an eye out for each other. Did your read anything about treatment?
