We will create and brainstorm a list of good research questions for today's profiles.

Do your work on the profile question that you take, and post your research findings in the Comments section here.  What did you discover?  Where did you find your best source? How does this help us understand the profile better?

  1. Is there Shunning? People can be excommunicated but they don't shun people. Excommunication is part of repenting for a grievous sin, and is there to give the person the option to chose to rejoin the church or not. But family and friends should be there to support that person with their choice. You are excommunicated for as long as you want some people never go back. There is also disfellowship where your still a member of the church and you can do things in church except attend church.

  2. Why is "jive" used?
Jive was used to have a hidden language or to be able to secretly talk to someone with out others knowing. It would be like piglatin or some language you spoke with your best friend when you were a kid. Today I feel it's still used do to a wide stretch of rap music and it influences our youth with the language used.

  6. Do Mormons Believe in the Trinity?
Mormonism believes in God the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, but does not accept the view of the Trinity accepted by Christianity based on the Bible. As such, it holds a distinctly different view of God that defines the Mormon Church a religion distinct from Christianity rather than part of it.

  8. How did the church manage to ban a practice that they saw as God's revelation?
Here is the link to the full article I found. It discusses the time, places and documents from the intro to Dan Barlow's Profile.

    https://www.lds.org/topics/the-manifesto-and-the-end-of-plural-marriage?lang=eng

Many people supported plural marriage while others did not. Woodruff was not sure what to do so he intensely prayed to God for guidance. He states that he had a revelation from God telling what would happen if they did not stop that practice and that the temples would be out of there hands. So Woodruff wrote a proclamation that led to the Manifesto.
