A Long Way Gone really set me back into my seat. While reading this I was incredibly shocked of how things turned around so fast. From the beginning of chapter 1, that Ishmael Beah had wrote on page 5 said, " Some people felt sorry for them and offered them places to stay, but most of the refugees refused, because they said war would eventually reach our town". When I first read this I was concerned of the way chapter one would end. One major part in chapter one that showed so much imagery would be on page 12 paragraph 3. I won't spoil what happens but the theme of this section would be war. To me this important because it is showing a terror of a story that went from then characters doing what they love turned into a nightmare of returning to a place they used to call home.

It's almost surreal to think about how one second you could be with your grandparents and then the next you're in the middle of a war. It just shows how things just aren't constant anymore. Anything is prone to change.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you completely, its unreal how fast things went from good to bad. It sorta brings up a question as to how the other parts of the book will develop and if other problems arise will the be abrupt and sudden like this?
ReplyDeleteI absolutely agree the very first chapter was so devastating in the changes that took place. I can't imagine how the rest of the chapters will unfold!
ReplyDeleteI agree! The way things escalated so quickly was concerning and concerning for how the book will play out. I also agree about the imagery, I think with all the details it really paints a clear picture.
ReplyDeleteI love the way you ended with how you felt about a long way home. I completely agree that this book shows the terror that is inflicted on these innocent peoples lives.
ReplyDeleteThanks guys! I hope you guys enjoy the book as much as I do! (:
